Restaurant meets wine bar is Viola. The website explains it as a wine bar with a small kitchen, but its much more. They have a more extensive menu than most enoteca and you can get some really delicious bruschetta and pastas. The meat dishes are very small, so stick with the pastas, salads and primi piatti.

It is situated in the Navigli neighborhood and it is a pleasant little place among the packed bars dedicated to cheap deals to attract people. Viola in contrary is a cozy little place. Perfect for a date or for a group of friends. The photo on the website is not exactly as it is in real life. It is cozier!

The wine list is extensive and the walls display hundreds of bottles- you know you are in for a nice night!

Enoteca Per Bacco

Cadorna may not be a destination of choice if you are looking for a small little wine bar at night. But if you are heading to the station for a late train or when you get off work, head to Enoteca Per Bacco for a glass of wine.

They have 400 different types of wine, champagne, spumanti… and other liquors at the bar which make for a large and vast selection to choose from. They also have themed evening tastings, so call ahead and see what type of schedule they have.

Enoteca Per Bacco is pretty busy during lunch time as they serve hot foods and piadines but at night it calms down, so you can get a table and enjoy some wine and whomever you are with. They serve small crostinis during aperitivo time and do not skimp on the wine (5 euro a glass)

All in all, it is a cute little place in an unassuming busy area. It is worth a try on a weeknight when you need a break and glass of wine.

Seven Steak and Wine Restaurant

If you have ever walked by Seven near Porta Geneva in the afternoon, it is very unassuming. Don’t let that affect your decision to go though. At night, the doors and shades open up and the restaurant is big and so cute. It has three small cozy rooms that are light and airy and inviting in this chilly weather.

The tables are wooden, with color accents throughout the dinning room. The menu is mostly meat and they also have salads and a selection of different type of appetizers. The steaks choices are all really good and the potatoes that accompany them are awesome.

It’s a perfect place for a group of people or for dinner any night of the week. A lively atmosphere, but intimate at the same time. It is a perfect neighborhood place- Really good food and wine at affordable prices.

L'enoteca Cantine Isola

If you are looking for a cute little wine bar that is relaxed and lively, this is the place to go. It’s on an unassuming street, but you can see the activity from a few blocks away.

Cantine Isola is small. There is a back room, with a single table and a few chairs, but most likely you will be standing or you will be on the sidewalk outside. There is a small covered seating area outside in the front which is nice on a warm night, but just assume you will be standing as you drink your wine.

Despite its size, Cantine Isola is full of character. The walls are aligned with bottle after bottle of reds and whites that you can purchase right there. It is more of a wine shop that has a lively aperitivo/ tasting every night. Bottle price range anywhere from 4 euro to … a lot.

So stop by on the way to dinner (the food they provide is minimal at best.. a few types of crostini) or make a detour on the way home after work. Either ask the bartender for a suggestion and try something new, or pluck a bottle from the wall and share it right there with whomever you are with. Try and sample because they have a lot to discover.

Il Cavallante Wine Bar

If you are looking for a pre-dinner or after work drink in Porta Romana area, head over to Il Cavallante wine bar. Try to sit at the table in the back if you go with a group, because the table is surrounded by bottles of wine, floor to ceiling, and it’s a really cool ambiance.

The wine menu is diverse and very inexpensive (around 3-5 euro a glass), and they let you sample before you commit to what you want. All of the bottles in the back room are for sale, so try a few different wines, ask for suggestions and then bring a bottle home.

There is also light menu available offering cheeses and sliced meats which makes for a perfect little wine bar!
