Trattoria 18/28

Trattoria 18/28

The concept of this restaurant is unique. They have set menu’s that are either 18 euro or 28 euro. But its more than that, because each price range has a few options of set menus to choose from. This is an important thing if you are not a big fan of the special/set menu theme of restaurants. Because set menu limits options, but this restaurant provides you with bountiful options, and in the end, there will be no surprises when the bill comes.

The atmosphere is modern and sleek. Clean and simple but elegant and nice. The food is very fresh, prepared simply but very good. Some regional dishes as well. So stop by one night for dinner, but they also offer Brunch (14 euro) lunch (7.50 or 12 euro).

I Chiostri di San Barnaba

I Chiostri di San Barnaba

Set back from the street, located inside a monastery dating back to the 1400 is i Chiostri di San Barnaba. It is full of art and history in a minimalist design. There is an outdoor seating area inside this piazza/garden that is awesome in the summer. The restaurant is minimalist with bi-monthly exhibitions of paintings by local artists. They change their menu monthly as to ensure the freshness of the food that they serve.

It is a nice little restaurant for lunch or a quiet dinner. Make sure to go when the weather gets nice and book a table outside.

Al Rifugio Pugliese Di Muciaccia Giovanni

Al Rifugio Pugliese Di Muciaccia Giovanni

The name of this restaurant is a mouthful, but i Mucciaccia is a true Pugliese restaurant in Milan. You walk into a room that is lively, unpretentious and informal, but  full of character. They immediatly serve you bread cut off from humungous loafs in the corner and hand you gigantic menus that lists pastas prepared in multiple ways. The orecchiette is what they seem to be known for- and it’s delicious!

The pasta dishes come out of the kitchen in serving bowl portions. You will feel like you are in your mothers kitchen as you are surely fed right and you are taken care of. It is not a gluttonous place, but a homey, family establishment.

It is a nice restaurant and one that you will only find if you leave the center/downtown. Enjoy and be sure to make a reservation.

Casa Tua Osteria

Casa Tua Osteria

Owned by the same people as Giulio Pane e Ojo and literally right next door is Casa Tua.  If you havent been to either, you should book tonight at either one. Casa Tua rivals Giulio Pane e Ojo in every way.  A similar menu- down home Roman food that are hearty and quite frankly delicious. From the pasta to the meat dishes, you literally can’t order wrong. They provide the antipasti for you free of charge- whatever the chef has prepared for the day and then you choose and enjoy the rest.

There are two floors to this restaurant. The upstairs is light and lined with windows that give it a open feel. The downstairs is their taverna room that is more of a grotto type room, more intimate and quiet. They are different, but equally as nice.

And to rave some more, when the bill comes, you won’t believe how cheap it is considering what you just ate and the atmosphere you are in.

2 seatings: 8:30 and 10:30

Gatto'

Gatto'

A new favorite! Gatto’ is small but unique. You enter through a store that sells a range of objects and things and head to the back room. There is a small, rustic, but beautiful dining room. It is simple, but no attention has been left unattended to.

The clientele appear to be regulars. People who are in the know and frequent top restaurants in Milan. The menu is simple- only about 4 items per course, but it is all delicious. You can’t go wrong with what you order. And the kitchen is open, so you can watch the chefs at work!

The price is surprisingly inexpensive for the place. And true Italian style, you can linger over your meal for as long or as short as you wish. This is a must try in Milan!

Al Pont de Ferr

Al Pont de Ferr

This is one of the best meals you will have on the Navigli. With all the options to choose from along the canal, at some point, make a reservation at Al Pont de Ferr. The food is fresh and delicious. The ambiance is not fancy, but fancy rustic. Homey but nice.

They have an unusual and inventive menu, and steer away from traditional, but the food is fantastic. Have the chef menu if you really want to see what the cooks offer.

The staff is friendly and you will enjoy your night for sure!!

Osteria di Porta Cicca

This restaurant is right on the Navigli. It is a beautiful inside, cozy and has no more than 15 tables. They do not have a large menu, but selective. Dinner will be an all night event at Porta Cicca, so make sure you are with great company and sit, enjoy your meal and a good bottle of wine.

The selection of seafood appetizers comes out of the kitchen in tiny portions, at a never ending pace. Stick with one of the set antipasti unless you are more of a foodie and like to linger. Make sure to make a reservation!

Taverna Moriggi

The restaurant is old and it’s history proves it’s authenticity. It is like you step into another time when you walk into Taverna Moriggi and this atmosphere is what makes Taverna Moriggi great.

It is a simple restaurant and there are only a handful of Milanese dishes to choose from, written on a small chalkboard on the wall. There are no menus and the waiter will basically tell you what is best to order. It will be something like- Risotto, Osso bucco or some grilled meats. Along with fresh salume to begin, thats your meal (more of less).

It is tucked away right in the center of Milan, so it is a little hard to find. Definitely come here for a drink after work because they also have a cantine.

Address: Via Moriggi, 8

Twelve Restaurant/Bar

Twlve is a lounge bar that serves food all hours of the day. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to Sunday brunch and themed aperitivos. It  covers all of the bases. A nice atmosphere; sort of modern and sleek, a small upstairs, a good bar area and an outdoor patio. Twelve has a live Dj for aperitivo that goes along with it’s themed nights; mondays chill, Thursdays 80’s night, Sunday jazz… (check the website for a specific week and day).

This is a great place to go with friends. It is lively, always filled with people and music and the food is genuinely good. It is basically a staple place that will not disappoint.

Chandelier

This weekend head somewhere posh in Milano. Chandelier was recently closed for “restyling” so its better than ever. This place is in a category of it’s own. Contributing to Milano’s fashion capital, Chandelier is gorgeous. The atmosphere is pure opulence. Each room decorated in a different way; there are colors and textures and fabrics that will impress just about anyone. It’s like out of a movie or from some lavish eccentric dream.

Visited by Milano’s rich and famous, Chandelier may be “cool,” but the food is not worth breaking the bank over. Instead, head for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere, because the atmosphere is without a doubt worth seeing and the drinks are fantastic!

Oh, and everything is for sale- because as the expression goes- “for those with money- everything is for sale!”
