Food Art Sushi restaurant

This restaurant is right in Porta Genova- you can see it from the station at the beginning of via Vigevano.

It is a modern and light restaurant and always looks as though it’s empty. But its not and it is a really great little place. Inside there are red paneled wales, white cushioned seating and modern touches like a flat screen tv on the wall- making the ethnic restaurant a little atypical.

The menu is creative, using cartoons to name the dishes, and the sushi is really fresh and delicious. It is a perfect place for lunch with coworkers and then for dinner, it is more of a little romantic gem!

They also have take-away, delivery and catering menu’s so if you live in the area it’s a good option besides pizza since not many places in Milan have delivery. But the atmosphere is really nice, so if you are spending the money to eat sushi in Milan, you may as well make your way and sit in the restaurant!!

Tandur Indian Restaurant

You know a restaurant is good when it is recommended by people of that culture. Tandur Indian restaurant may not be the best Indian food that you will ever eat, but it may be one of the best here in Milano.

This restaurant serves food that is not too spicy, but full of flavor. Their menu is diverse and there are many choices for both vegetarians and people who love grilled meats.

It is a restaurant to go, linger over dinner, share dishes with your friends and enjoy trying foods from another culture. The waiters are more than friendly and will suggest dishes if you ask and more importantly, they will make sure you don’t over order.

Tandur is situated right downtown, so stop by one afternoon for a change in the typical here in

Milano.

Mizu Japanese Restaurant

The interior of Mizu is of Japanese high design with bamboo and a zen like ambiance. It is a dress-to-impress, see-and-be-seen restaurant. But unlike many trendy places in Milano, this place is not overrated. Mizu serves typical Japanese fare but outstanding in quality and preparations.

Mizu is a Japanese restaurant where, when you walk in, you feel like it could be in any big metropolitan, high fashion city in the world. But what makes this restaurant great besides the high quality food is that the wait staff is friendly and they leave the snobbery to others. You may be paying a little extra for the ambiance or the trend factor, but in the end you won’t be annoyed, because dinner is entirely enjoyable.

Shambala Restaurant

Walk into this restaurant and you definitely don’t feel like you are in Milano anymore. The outdoor garden to the left is one of the most beautiful restaurant gardens in the city, candlelight and romantic.

The inside however is not a second best. It too has character and charm. Antique look with wooden tables, some even secluded bungalow type set on the ground and away from the main dining floor Shambala its rustic with an authentic feel and is designed to make you feel like you are somewhere exotic.

The wait staff are super friendly and accommodating and will suggest great dishes if you ask but there is no need because everything from the appetizers to the pad thai is delicious.

The only two negatives are:

1. Its location. Google Maps the location before you go because if you drive too far you will be on this deserted road in the middle of nowhere lined with prostitutes. It’s tucked away, which adds to the charm, but you really have to look hard not to miss it.

2. Thai food is cheap. This restaurant is not

But it is definitely a place to go because the restaurant is beautiful and Thai food is a nice change from typical Italian fare. You will for sure have a wonderful night with your date.

Tasca Tapas Restaurant

When you are in the mood to eat an array of different dishes without going for an aperitivo, go to a Tapas restaurant here in Milano.

Why going for tapas is fun:

You get to share, so you can’t order the wrong thing.

Its dinner. Not the same aperitivo fare over and over.

It’s a fun date idea or for a big group of people.

You can order sporadically and so you never have too much food and can enjoy your wine in between dishes.

For a tapas restaurant in Milano, Tasca on Porta Ticinese is the place to go. It’s a small, narrow restaurant, and there is often a crowd hanging around the front door, but make your way through, past the bar, and into the restaurant area.

The atmosphere is lively, and although it’s a small restaurant, you have enough space around your table to enjoy your company and not feel cramped. Once you start to order, you won’t be disappointed. The menu is all typical Spanish tapas with a lot of selection and reasonably priced so make sure to order a assortamnet of things. The dishes that come out of the kitchen are all really tasty and full of flavors.

Order a good bottle of wine, sit, relax, and linger over dinner but make sure to be adventurous with some of the dishes, because, why not. That’s what trying new things is all about

Tasca is situated a few doors down from Nami (reviewed here) on Porta Ticinese: a lively area for dinks before or after dinner.

El Yacout Moroccan Restaurant

A Moroccan retreat in the city of Milano is like discovering a water fountain in the middle of the desert. But such restaurant exists. It’s called El Yacout, and to an unknown passer-by, it could double as an opulent Middle Eastern temple.

Greeted by the kindest of welcomes, you will be engulfed in a space utterly unlike the outside world you walked in from. Every table is arranged for romance, and by 10 pm there will not be an empty seat in the two floor restaurant.

Wait for the music to start and the belly dancing to begin, as you will be awed and inspired. You may feel like you are staring with your mouth open, with periods of totally ignoring your dinner partner, but you cant help it because she oozes sexuality with every gyration. This is no cheap date place or a show of other kinds, it is a master of Moroccan dance and it’s fun.

And in no way do they skimp on the food. In fact, the abundance of food and décor go hand in hand. The traditional mezze appetizer and bounds of couscous, vegetables and meat are a must have and you won’t be disappointed. And after this meal set for a king, you will leave so full, you too will want to dance the night away- perhaps inspired from the woman you just watched or perhaps cast by a Moroccan spell.

They offer an aperitivo, dinner and after dinner food, or a relaxing smoke from the sheesha. So there is something for anyone or anytime.

Nami Sushi

It’s hard to find a sushi restaurant in Milano that is not questionably overpriced for what they serve. The lack of competition allows the existing restaurants the ability to charge high prices for little quality, and thus you leave feeling ripped off and hungry. If you want to eat Japanese, you will have to accept the fact that you will be paying for it, so now it’s the search for somewhere with high-quality food and reasonable portions for the money.

Nami on Porta Ticinese has it all. You walk into a Japanese atmosphere of serenity and charm. The restaurant is lively and energetic yet upscale and pretty. Essentially, it is a restaurant that will fit any occasion from a date to a dinner with friends.

The sushi is bountiful and skillfully displayed. The specialty rolls are large so it’s easy to order too many – which isn’t always the case at other places. Similarly, the fish is fresh and the main courses coming out of the kitchen all look so good!

The only negative is that the tables are a little close and the food comes out in record pace, but don’t feel rushed. Take your time and enjoy yourself. Once they know you are not going anywhere, they let you sit all night and don’t harp on you to leave.

Make a reservation though if you can because it is always busy. And when you are done with dinner, there is so much life on Porta Ticinese that you will not have to go far for an after dinner drink.
