This is a place that you expect to be in Milano. All white, clean design, and a dining room bustling with people. However when you walk in, you will be surprised of it’s vast contrary to anything else in the city. The menu is comprised of gelato and latte-based deserts accompanied by healthy alternative meals- salads, paidinas and pastas.

This restaurant is a refreshing place in the restaurant scene of Milano. It is the perfect brunch spot, or for a leisurely lunch. The salads are great, the gelato is some of the freshest in the city and they have coffees and chocolate being ordered as much as the food.

There is the gelateria in the front an the restaurant in the back, so you can go just for a caffe or desert without having to sit down.

The lines are often long for a table, and the atmosphere is really pleasant, so go when you are not in a rush. But definitely go, especially if you want something with dean and deluca quality in a french provincial all-white atmosphere.

When something is referred to as the best, its quite misleading. Because what is “the best”? Best is subjective to one’s tastes. It’s the same concept as the saying- one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

In a past issue, we called Chocolat “the best gelato in Milan,” and to us, it still is, but to others, it may be a little further down the list of gelaterias here in the city.

A reader Steve wrote in about his favorites in Milan, because as he states “favorite is one thing and best is another.” Very true indeed. So here are Steve’s favorites, in his own words. Try them all and see what you think. Because after all, there is always room for a few more favorites when it comes to gelato!

“1) Massimo del Gelato. The name says it all. People drive their cars here and double park for gelato.

2) Bianco Latte on Via Turati. The chocolate flavors might be better at Chocolat but the overall quality of Latte Bianco for all flavors is better.

3) Choco Cult I think this edges Chocolat simply because they make stranger flavors like Chocolate and Basilico which sounds bad but in reality is an unexpected surprise. “

It’s hard to walk by VIEL and not want to stop for a macedonia or gelato or even better- both combined. You can almost see if from down the street because the bright awning calls you in. The fruit is fresh and exotic and the gelato is creamy and delicious. A perfect meal for a summer afternoon.
A family run establishment, the waiters at VIEL are friendly and accommodating, and the menu is extensive and fresh. Have your meal outside because there is ample outdoor seating but its covered, so you don’t bake in the sun while eating your meal.

VIEL is a perfect place for a healthy breakfast, lunch of paninis or crepes, or dessert. Or better yet, get a large fruit plate with yogurt or gelato and share with your friend or enjoy it yourself. They are awesome.

Bottom line is if you have yet to discover VIEL, It’s perfect for lunch or dessert after dinner, or quite honestly any time of the day for fresh and healthy food. Enjoy!

It’s hot out, at night the mosquitoes are biting, it’s not quite August vacation, but you need a good escape. For gelato, the perfect place is Grom. With four locations around Milano, one should be in close proximity.

A gelateria that doubles as a bar? Genius!

Ice Bound on Corso Garibaldi serves the perfect combination of both gelato and mixed drinks. A perfect combination because what else could you need on a hot summer day if you are stuck in the city. The gelateria is bright and colorful and the music playing makes this place hard to miss and even harder to walk by without stopping. Its location allows you to order and then sit on the pedestrian only street to enjoy your purchase.

Think about it, you just had dinner on Corso Como and you want dessert but your date wants another drink. Or it’s the middle of the day, the Italian sun is beating down on you and you want to be transformed from the city streets to well… anywhere else. Icebound is the place.

So as it feels like we are in the Sahara as opposed to Milan these days, stop by Ice Bound and take a break!

Everybody has their favorite gelato place. Maybe it’s near your apartment or maybe is outside your office building. It’s good to have favorites, and its good to have loyalty 
to your local gelateria. BUT the best gelato in Milano is at Chocolat. The best is quite subjective, but Chocolat serves gelato that is so good, you will go out of your way to come back once you have tried it. There are lines at all hours of the day and rightfully so, but don’t be discouraged because the gelato is soft, full of flavor and awesome!

I assume that one also goes for their chocolate which they claim is hand made in Tuscany. They make premium cream cakes and 6 different types of chocolate gelato just to start so leave your diet at the door if you want to experience a chocolate delight.

During lunch, they also offer paninis on a varieties of breads and there is a small sitting area upstairs. Lunch time is especially packed, but you can have it to go as Parco Sempione is a short walking distance away.

So don’t just order desert, go FOR the dessert!
