Trattoria 18/28

Trattoria 18/28

The concept of this restaurant is unique. They have set menu’s that are either 18 euro or 28 euro. But its more than that, because each price range has a few options of set menus to choose from. This is an important thing if you are not a big fan of the special/set menu theme of restaurants. Because set menu limits options, but this restaurant provides you with bountiful options, and in the end, there will be no surprises when the bill comes.

The atmosphere is modern and sleek. Clean and simple but elegant and nice. The food is very fresh, prepared simply but very good. Some regional dishes as well. So stop by one night for dinner, but they also offer Brunch (14 euro) lunch (7.50 or 12 euro).

Twelve Restaurant/Bar

Twlve is a lounge bar that serves food all hours of the day. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to Sunday brunch and themed aperitivos. It  covers all of the bases. A nice atmosphere; sort of modern and sleek, a small upstairs, a good bar area and an outdoor patio. Twelve has a live Dj for aperitivo that goes along with it’s themed nights; mondays chill, Thursdays 80’s night, Sunday jazz… (check the website for a specific week and day).

This is a great place to go with friends. It is lively, always filled with people and music and the food is genuinely good. It is basically a staple place that will not disappoint.

Bhangrabar Milan

The beginning of Corso Sempione is lined with aperitivos. From Deseo to Living, to Jazz Cafe, the buffets are large, the music is loud and the bars are always busy with people on the weekend.

Another great stop on the line of choices is Bhangrabar. Different for the rest in that it has an Indian inspired theme- warm lighting, cozy banquets, pillows and the like. The aperitivo is rich with food, nothing Indian inspired which is odd, but they have everything from paella to pasta and you will certainly not leave hungry.

In addition, the brunch is one of the best along that street.

Piquenique Restaurant

This little restaurant is a true neighborhood spot. It is a cross between french provincial and your own home living room. There have wooden tables with mismatched chairs, is a fire place going in the corner, a chalkboard in the front listing the days menu and a fireplace going at all times. It is a cozy place that is busy with families for sunday brunch, but also intimate and could be romantic.

The menu changes daily depending on the season and what they decide to make. They are creative with what they prepare, but it is hearty and delicious. They also have a wide selection of wines, and is a great place to go after work just for a glass or two.

This place is recommended for a relaxed dinner, a leisurely sunday brunch or a great glass of wine. check this place out if you are in the neighborhood.

Colonial Cafe

This cafe on Corso Magenta is a nice place for lunch or for a drink after work. They have a wine hour every day from 6:30-9pm with an aperitivo buffet. The buffet is quite expansive, with both cold and hot foods- there is a wide selection and is quite good and fresh.

Large red leather couches and sleek tables make up the Colonial Cafe. It is a nice atmosphere with bartenders who will suggests what wines to try.

Stop by on a Thursday because the aperitivo is accompanied by live music. Listen to some music, order a glass of wine and enjoy the evening. The are open all day, so come for lunch if you can’t make a Thursday night, or better yet, for their weekend brunch.

Refeel Cafe/ Restaurant

This place near Porta Roman is the perfect location for a quick lunch, leisurely drink or Sunday brunch. Inside is modern dining room, with clean lines and leather and wooden furniture. Making for a relaxed and inviting ambiance.

The menu is simple- paninis, salads and main dishes. But all are large quantities and really quite good. They serve weekend brunch as well with a really nice menu- including Bloody Mary’s. Basically, it is a cross between a restaurant, a bar and a cafe set in a nice space. You can go for one of their wide selection of coffees or drinks, or for a full meal.

However, If you go for a drink, try to sit in the seating area in the front. They have large leather sofas that you will never want to get up from (shown above). Or sit in the outside patio- they still have it open despite the cold weather, but the heat lamps make it a pleasant area.

They cover all the bases- from aperitivo to brunch, so go at some point and try it out.

Jazz Cafe

Corso Sempione is lined with bars and restaurants, so it may be hard to choose where to go. in this blog alone, we have reviewed, Living, Deseo, and Mizu on Corso Semptione which are all good choices.

Now you can add Jazz cafe to that list. It is always crowded and has a large inside and a very large outside. But the biggest thing of all is their aperitivo spread. It’s quite massive with so many options that it’s kind of almost too much. In fact, everything at this place is large because they also serve their wine by the glass in goblet size. You will not leave Jazz Cafe hungry, thirsty or without having a good time.
They serve a nice dinner in addition, with white table cloth setting and, you guessed it, large portions. The music, nice waiters and relaxed yet upscale atmosphere, it makes for a fun evening. It’s a must try!

Radetzky cafe

Most reviews of this cafe/bar say that it is one of the coolest places in Milan with top location on Garibaldi.

The thing about Radetzky is that when you visit for aperitivo, for example, you will see people from every age range 25-75. It’s a laid back bar inside and the outside seating is jammed with people. After hours, the bar seating outside gets so popular that most people are standing in the street and avoid the inside seating all together.

The bar mainly is a place to go for a cocktail after work or before a club. Not the most extensive aperitivo, but they have a menu for light food and paninis that are quite good.

So go after work, or on sunday, as they are known for their brunch.

Mama Cafe Restaurant

All cities have a mama’s restaurant, and it usually serves the food you would expect from that name. In NYC, Mama’s serves fried chicken, mac and cheese and bread pudding that makes you salivate. The expectation was that the mama’s here in Milan on contrary would have spaghetti carbonara, ossobucco and risottos on the menu, set in a rustic small restaurant with no frills attached.

Mama’s in Milan adds a few frills to it’s restaurant, as Milan tends to add a lot of frills from the down home, authentic-ness of the rest of Italy. The menu is varied and extensive and heavy on the meats- but all delicious, with large servings at a reasonable price. In addition, the waiters are so friendly, the local wines are strong and really good, and they play live music usually during aperitivo. So it’s not to say that Mama’s isn’t good, it’s great in fact, it just doesn’t scream mama’s kitchen.

Maybe what made it not fit it’s name is the large and open atmosphere. It is bright and inviting, but it is a relaxed restaurant and you can sit for hours enjoying your meal. And it’s fun- especially when the live music is on!!

They serve brunch!

(dinner: 2 antipasti, 2 secondi, bottle of wine : 60 euro)
