Enoteca Decanter

Enoteca Decanter

This is a place for beer lovers in a country of great wine. Located up by Sempione, enotecta decanter is built around beer. There is a huge list from numerous countries, along with beers from their own brewery.

And if you can’t get enough, they serve dishes that use beer in their recipes. It is definitely a different place and experience here in Milano. You can go for beer tasting sessions, but call in advance to make a booking.

Parrilla Mexicana

Parrilla Mexicana

This may be one of the most authentic mexican restaurants in the city. The inside is cozy and intimate but cool- full of nick nacks and bright colors that liven your mood like a good mexican place should. It is a nice change from the somewhat stagnant other mexican restauarnts in the city. The ambiance is perfect for a fun night of margaritas; wooden tables, bright table clothes, multi color walls and tapestries make it a restaurant that could only be mexican! (in a good way)

The menu is full of all the favorites- from burritos to fajitas to everything in between.

Light Lounge

Light Lounge

Another popular, trendy, high fashion bar/restaurant Milan. Light is frequented by models and Milan’s well off and well dressed with a bouncer at the door to add to the effect, not really to regulate the lounge. The bar scene is upscale and is seperate from the dining room which is nice, so if you do go for dinner, you will not be cramped.

The overall ambiance of this place is cool. The architecture and decor of Light is modern and fun with great design- everything from the walls to the ceiling. The food however is nothing special which adds to the fact that although the space is cool, there is not much more beyond that. But one night when you are all dressed up, stop by for a drink!

Cafe Trussardi alla Scala

Cafe Trussardi alla Scala

If you are going to La Scala or in the vicinity, you should stop by bar at Trussardi to at least see the beautiful space the fashion house has created. You can see the beautiful bar and cafe with floor to ceiling windows from outside as it is right around the corner from La Scala. The building is part store, part bar and part restaurant- with a formal restaurant upstairs and the cafe on the ground floor.

It is a place to go if money is no issue and if you don’t mind spending 16 euro for a simple drink. But the beautiful and well dressed clientele are as high class as the atmosphere you are in. Places like this is what makes Milan the fashion capital of the world.

But it it is overpriced in all regards with food that does not make it worth it. But you go for a drink simply for the atmosphere and have no expectations or reservations, then you will not be disappointed. In fact, its quite fun!

Pogue Mahone’s Irish Pub

Pogue Mahone’s Irish Pub

The 17th is St. Patrick’s Day and although there is no parade in Milan or an excess of green and leprechauns around the city, the Irish pubs will be celebrating. Pogue Mahone’s in Milan is a true Irish bar. No frills, no fuss, just good beer and a good time. Come early- the celebration starts at 6:30- so you will get a place at the bar or inside. Have fun and drink a few pints in celebration!

During the rest of the year, they play soccer games regularly, so stop by if you are in mood for a beer and to watch some sports.

Blue Note Jazz Club

Blue Note Jazz Club

If you have been to the legendary Blue Note jazz club in NYC, then you already know of its location also here in Milano. But for those who don’t know, Blue Note is a jazz club in the city that offers live music six days a week, dinner and an expansive drink menu.

It is the first location that Blue Note has in Europe, so just from that, it is bound to be great. Musicians from around the world come here to play. The ambiance is just right of a jazz club, the music is fantastic and its something new to do in the city if you haven’t yet been!

They also serve sunday brunch- a fun way to spend your sunday afternoon!

Starhotel Rosa Grand

Starhotel Rosa Grand

Located right behind the Duomo is one of the many Starhotels- The Rosa Grand. Not a new hotel in Milan, but it just underwent a huge renovation and although it was reopened months ago, it had its opening party last week. It moved its entrance to Piazza Fontana and expanded the space of the hotel.

If you do not have the chance to stay here, come for a drink when you are downtown. The lobby is spralling with different rooms and huge seating areas. It is a different feel from the nearby Straf or Gray which are small and boutique. The Rosa Grand, is as its name entails, grand in terms of space. It is minimal and modern as you would expect from Milanese architecture but an old but new place to see and visit in the city.

Frida Cafe

In the heart of the Isola district, Frida is an open space that is half art gallery, half bar, filled with an eclectic crowd. Perhaps not as cools since it has become a trendy spot in Milan, but it is as artsy a place as you will get in Milan. The mismatched sofas, original photography hung on the wall, jazz music playing and local artists hanging out make up this bar.

Frequented by everyone from the MTV crowd to artists and musicians themselves. It is large and has a nice outdoor patio- which is actually more enjoyable than the inside space. It is always packed, especially on the weekends, so perhaps stop by on a monday or tuesday when the beer is cheaper and the crowd is a little thinner.

Twelve Restaurant/Bar

Twlve is a lounge bar that serves food all hours of the day. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to Sunday brunch and themed aperitivos. It  covers all of the bases. A nice atmosphere; sort of modern and sleek, a small upstairs, a good bar area and an outdoor patio. Twelve has a live Dj for aperitivo that goes along with it’s themed nights; mondays chill, Thursdays 80’s night, Sunday jazz… (check the website for a specific week and day).

This is a great place to go with friends. It is lively, always filled with people and music and the food is genuinely good. It is basically a staple place that will not disappoint.

Chandelier

This weekend head somewhere posh in Milano. Chandelier was recently closed for “restyling” so its better than ever. This place is in a category of it’s own. Contributing to Milano’s fashion capital, Chandelier is gorgeous. The atmosphere is pure opulence. Each room decorated in a different way; there are colors and textures and fabrics that will impress just about anyone. It’s like out of a movie or from some lavish eccentric dream.

Visited by Milano’s rich and famous, Chandelier may be “cool,” but the food is not worth breaking the bank over. Instead, head for a drink and enjoy the atmosphere, because the atmosphere is without a doubt worth seeing and the drinks are fantastic!

Oh, and everything is for sale- because as the expression goes- “for those with money- everything is for sale!”
