ThermeMilano

ThermeMilano

You may not think the middle of a city is the optimal place for an authentic therme spa, but right next to Porta Romana is an oasis in the city. It offers everything typical of a Therme Spa;  hydro-massage baths, hammam, bio saunas, turkish baths, all in a beautiful building with more beautiful outside.

Buy a one day ticket (35-46 euro) and you get access to the entire day at the spa, a light lunch and all the added necessities: bathrobe, towel, flip flops, and shower kit.

There seems to be endless Therme spas around Italy (if you want one near the lakes, head to Lago di Garda), but you don’t even have to leave the city if you want an escape. And it is clean and beautiful, not a run down city spa! Enjoy!

Parco Nord Milan

Parco Nord Milan

This weekend as the weather returns to warm and contines through the spring and into the summer, head to the park. But go somewhere atypical in Milan. You have probably been to Parco Sempione dozens of times if not more, and the more you go the more you realize just how small it is. Giardini Publicci is just as beautiful, but even smaller. If you are up for a run, or a picnic or just a game of frisbie, get on your moto or the subway and head north.

Parco Nord is big enough where you can bicycle, run, or go for a leiserly walk without getting bored of the same scenery. You can take the yellow metro line to Zara and then the tram up Viale Fulvio Testi. It is beautiful, large and gets better and better as the years go on and the city dedicates it’s energy to making it more enjoyable for the public to use.

It attracts international vendors to showcase their goods all at wholesale or cheaper prices. The fair is being held in Milano Fiera’s new exhibition complex of Rho because it has increased in size so much over the years.

San Siro Stadium

All major cities who have historic sports teams offer a tour of the stadium to look back at some of the great moments that happened there. Fenway Park in Boston, Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden in NYC, Wrigley Field in Chicago and the Staples Stadium in LA are among a few in the US.

Here in Europe, soccer is king, and most of the great moments happened on the field.

Milan’s own San Siro Stadium that hosts both AC Milan and FC Inter is the only stadium to have a museum located inside. Built in 1926 for then AC Milan president Piero Pirelli, and later sold in 1939 to the municipality, San Siro was shared by FC Inter only after the 2nd World War.

And since the opening, the Stadium has held two world cups (1934 and 1990), many national team matches, the Champtions League finals in 1965, 1970 and 2001, as well as hosting most of Italys great players at some point in their career.

Sports museums are something that anyone can enjoy because they are fun. A good compromise for someone not willing to go to the Triennale (despite their awesome exhibits and cafe) or to see something cultural. Some of the greatest players in history of Italy have played for these teams- so the museum has a lot of really cool things to see.

And if you time it right, definitely check out a game if you haven’t already. Perhaps go to the museum in the morning and a game at night.

July 4th in Milano

American Independence day is on Saturday and for those expats in Milano, just because you are overseas doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate. It is a day usually spent by some body of water, accompanied by beer and barbeque, where parties are rampant and the spirit of the country is shown through parades, fireworks and flags. It’s a festive holiday and it’s just plain fun.
Here is Milano, there are enough expats that Easy Milano has organized a big event held at the garden of La Triennale di Milano (up at Parco Sempione) It appears that the party will attract a lot of people as they have been setting up decorations around the park for a few days now, so if you haven’t already registered or if you don’t yet have plans, make sure to stop by.
It appears however that the whole area of Parco Sempione will be celebrating. Just Cavalli is hosting their Danny’s 16th annual Independence day party, as they will have an American buffet happy hour and music by DJ Cuca. They are running from 7:30 until late, so it is definitely possible to go to both. Start off your night at La Triennale and then end it at Just Cavalli. Perfect!
July 4th is all about drinking and eating and laughing and dancing and loving your life and your independence. So pick up a bud light (well, they don’t have light in Italy), so pick up a Budweiser and have a happy fourth of July!
