I moved to Milan in 2008 on a whim after I graduated business school in the US. It was not a lengthy thought-over decision, nor did I really know anything about the city of Milan. Rather I packed a few suitcases and flew here with no expectations but a lot of hopes.
It took me 6 months to adjust and then time to realize that this is not Boston, it is definitely not New York, but the city of Milan must have more to offer. I started to explore. I went to new places and searched to look for the good restaurants in the city, and I started to blog about my finds. I didnt start La Bella Città because I think my opinion matters or that it is any better than any other book out there, but I knew what I was finding was different from what’s listed in every guide on Milan and I thought some people could benefit from that. I knew that there was more to offer from the city after you see the Duomo and walk through la Galleria.
What La Bella Città aims to do is allow visitors and residents to explore Milan and what it has to offer. There is a lot of negativity about this city on forums across the internet. Milan is not Rome, nor is it Florence or Venice. But Milan was not built to be those cities. It is a city of fashion, where people work hard and make a living. It is a city where you come to work, but if you look around, it is also a place to live.
La Bella Città aims to inspire people to explore the city of Milan and to try new places.
If however you have a favorite place in Milan, know of a cool store or think that “xyz” is a must see, please send an email!
Thanks and enjoy!!

Hi.
Would you recommend this restaurant, and how expencive is it really? Im going to Milan this weekend, and havent decided..should i choose this or someplace different, like the Trattoria degli Orti, or Casa Tua – or Pont di Ferr?
Good blog, thank you
Anna
Agree, the place is great. They have a great chef and the service is pleasant, prices reasonable.
it depends on what you are looking for really. Casa tua us really great food at really inexpensive prices in a trattoria/restaurant environment. I would recommend that place to anyone.
Al pont de ferr is a little more adventurous in the food in that the chef makes dishes that is more for “foodies” although its delicious. its more expensive than casa tua but nt=it extravagent by any means
Porta cicca is the most beautiful dining room, but the food is less delicious in flavor. its more fancy and most expensive of the three. Less of a trattoria and more of a restaurant.
and trattoria degli orti is great food in a small dining room. I dont know what you are looking for. But i would choose casa tua, Gatto’ or al pont de ferr for atmosphere and food. Have fun!!!
